Ford Explorer exceeds expectations.
The 2006 Ford Explorer has a well-deserved
reputation as a practical midsize SUV with
advanced capabilities. Its functional
interior, ample passenger space, strong
powertrains and a well-controlled ride
contribute to its global popularity. The
vehicle’s excellent ride & handling,
powerful V6, and interior quietness
further endear it to users worldwide.
For 2006, the Explorer comes with a V6
4.0-litre SOHC engine, 10 advanced safety
technologies, all-new interior, the lowest
ever noise, vibration and harshness (NVH)
levels in its class, and enhanced
performance. The model is now available in
Oman in two trim levels: XLS, and for the
first time, the luxury Eddie Bauer
version.
The Ford Explorer is a joy to drive.
Taking much of the credit for this praise
is the rear independent suspension, which
provides a smooth ride and keeps the
wheels planted on rough pavement. Steering
is surprisingly responsive and the brakes
inspire confidence through a firm and
progressive pedal. Power from either the
V6 engine is also quite impressive.
The New Explorer offers an extensive array
of safety features as standard. This
includes Advanced Restraints Module and
Dual Front-Crash Sensors, Five-level Front
Passenger Sensing System, Adaptive
Load-Limiting Safety Belt Retractors,
Front-Passenger Seat Adaptive Air Bag
Tether, Adaptive Air-Bag Venting, Adaptive
Stroking Steering Column, Front-Seat Side
Airbags, Dual Stage Front Air Bags, Driver
Seat Position Sensor and AdvanceTrac® with
class-exclusive Roll Stability Control®.
The available Safety Canopy™ side air
curtains protect front and second-row
occupants in the 2006 Ford Explorer. The
‘roll-fold’ technology deploys the curtain
between the occupant’s head and the window
as it inflates.
The 2006 Explorer has earned five stars in
frontal and side impact crash tests for
drivers and passengers from the National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s
New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). It was
voted also as “Best SUV for families” by
the American Automobile Association and
Parents magazine in the United States, and
recommended as “Best Pick” by the
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

nameplate has seen a 25 per cent increase
in its 2005 Middle Eastern sales, and is

the world’s best selling SUV for the last
15 years having sold over 5.5 million

expectations from the 2006 model.
