Mustang is ‘Consumers Most Wanted’
Coupe.
For the second year in a row, Ford
Mustang's winning combination of
performance, affordability and aggressive
yesteryear styling put it ahead of the
competition, as it emerged the ‘Most
Wanted Coupe’ in Edmunds.com’s ‘Consumers
Most Wanted’ Survey. Mustang emerged the
winner in the Coupe Under $ 25,000
category.
Ford Mustang won the coveted rating with
its retro looks and compelling
performance. Mustang provides the
quintessential muscle car experience with
its 4.6 litre, 330 HP, V8 engine. It has
more technical sophistication than most
others in the segment. It is a very solid
performer in urban, exurban and suburban
lanes, and the ratios in the automatic
seem well matched to the available torque.
What makes the new Mustang interesting
therefore is the fact that it is a
60s-style fastback coupe, complete with
old-school influences, like a dual-hooded
dash with aluminium accent panels and
numerous mechanical improvements that
advance the coupe’s handling
characteristics. The Ford Mustang debuted
in April of 1964 and went on to become an
international sensation. . The canted nose
and the round headlights are a flashback
to the '67 to '69 Mustangs, and that’s
precisely winning it the admiration of
sports car enthusiasts today.
The new Mustang’s interior is
well-equipped, with 60s-era twin-hood dash
and 3, 6, and 9 o’clock spoked steering
wheel. While the gauges are retro, a very
modern ‘My Color’ option allows users to
change the backlighting to the colour of
their choice from among 125 hues. With
more wheelbase comes more room, especially
front leg room, and an expanded feel to
the cabin. Interior ergonomics are vastly
improved in the new Ford Mustang, as the
driver seat now puts you in the proper
position to work the shifter and operate
the controls. The seats are retro shaped
too, but properly supportive, and put you
in easy reach of familiar Ford controls
for climate and music, the highlight of
which is the premium Shaker 500 audio
system. As with all Mustangs, the rear
seat remains 2+2 tight, but it is split
and fold. Switches and handles feel
substantial, and fit and finish is superb.
A striking color accent package features
red leather seats, red door panel inserts
and red floor mats all set against a dark
charcoal interior.
Four-wheel disc brakes are standard on all
Mustang models. Antilock brakes and
traction control are optional on the V6
models and standard on the GT. A stability
control system is not offered. Side-impact
airbags for front occupants are optional
on all models, but full-length head
curtain airbags are not available. In
NHTSA crash tests, the 2006 Ford Mustang
earned a perfect five stars for
front-impact protection and four stars for
side-impact protection.
As a sports car that has thrilled
generations of enthusiasts in all parts of
the world, the Mustang continues to hold
sway over young minds across the Middle
East - making it the GCC’s best selling
sports car.
