Ford vehicles win Motorweek Awards.
Ford romped home with three awards at the
2006 Motorweek Driver’s Choice Awards.
Ford Mustang was adjudged the Best
Performance Car, while Explorer and
Mountaineer were jointly ranked the Best
Family Sport Utility Vehicle. The ‘Best
Pick-Up Truck’ title meanwhile went to
Ford F-150. The 2006 MotorWeek Drivers’
Choice Awards are presented by The Stanley
Works, and are sponsored by Dunlop Tires
and cars.com.
This year a team of 15 judges, comprised
of the writers, producers and crew of
MotorWeek evaluated more than 150 cars and
trucks, focusing on key features of
superior performance, technology,
practicality and dollar value. The
resulting 12 categories reflect the
current buying trends in a market flush
with outstanding vehicles. The vehicles
selected for a 2006 Drivers’ Choice Award
made it through the grueling gauntlet of
road and track tests as well as a
comprehensive comparison to competitors.
The resulting list of winners represents
what MotorWeek considers the best in each
category.
“ For a growing family, we suggest our
Best Family Sport-Utility Vehicle, the
Ford Explorer/Mountaineer. Virtually
all-new yet familiar, the
Explorer/Mountaineer are among the
toughest yet most civilized sport-utes.
With an independent rear suspension, and
three row seating, these traditional
body-on-frame SUVs now boast sleek styling
and an impressive high-end interior.
There's also the power of Ford's
bullet-proof V6 and V8 engines, plus the
segment's first 6-speed automatic
transmission. Fifteen years in production,
and still the mid-size SUV benchmark!” the
citation said.
The Ford Mustang impressed the judges with
its strong V6 and V8 power, and the
sharpest handling chassis in Mustang
history. “It's a clear winner,” added the
report. “But add in the vintage pony-car
style, and a price that's lower than many
front-drive import posers, and the Mustang
easily out-muscles its performance car
competitors.
America's best selling pickup, and for
that matter, the world's best selling
vehicle F-150 also came in with top
ranking. “In this toughest of vehicle
segments, the F-150 wins again by
combining capability and high-value, with
benchmark interior design and quality.
From stripper work models to luxurious
personal use pickups, Ford's amazing
all-four-door F-150 takes on all comers,
and wins,” stated the report.
