Ford Focus crosses 1,000,000 mark.
Ford will be celebrating a landmark total
sales number for the Ford Focus, in the
UK. The Focus is currently the largest
selling car in the country. In July 2006
sales figures for this Ford favourite
passed the 1,000,000 mark. The Ford Focus
was launched in 1998 and has not been off
the bestsellers' list since.
One of the newest Ford Focus cars is a
model capable of running on bioethanol and
petrol. The Ford Focus Flexible Fuel
Vehicle, Britain's first biofuel car, will
be among a number of Ford cars on display
able to use this renewable fuel.
Another new model in the Focus range is
the Coupé-Cabriolet, which will be seen in
Britain for the first time, with UK prices
and specifications announced at the show.
The Coupé-Cabriolet combines the Ford
Focus car's acclaimed driving quality,
Italian style courtesy of our Pininfarina
partners and practicality. Substantial
luggage capacity with the roof down
increases to more than 500 litres of
useable space with the roof up in coupé
mode. Other Ford star exhibits at the
London show are new Ranger, as well as
S-MAX, Galaxy and Focus ST.
For 2006, Focus comes with a series of
changes to better suit individual customer
needs, including a new exterior design,
several new colours and content upgrades
across the model range. The Focus interior
is clean and modern-looking, highly
functional and built of high-quality
materials. The instrument panel is
symmetrical; the driver and front
passenger areas are divided by two
rectangular climate control registers, the
hazard switch and a shallow center stack
for the audio and climate control systems.
Focus benefits from the Ford’s “Revolution
Under the Hood,” a massive undertaking
that began about five years ago to improve
powertrain performance, refinement, fuel
economy and emissions. Driven by a 1.6 L
Duratec engine, the 2006 Ford Focus
integrates Driver and Front Passenger
Airbags, Advanced Braking Systems –
including Anti-lock Braking System (ABS),
Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)
and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA). The
vehicle also boasts the largest wheel base
in its class and the widest body in its
class. All this translates into a smoother
ride that’s more stable, and more
enjoyable.
For the first time, in the Ford Focus
4-speed automatic, the Durashift
transmission can be slotted into a
‘manual’ position whereby the driver can
select a manual gear by simply pushing the
lever up to reduce gear and down to
increase gear.
Focus has been a hot favourite among young
customers all around the world. It has won
over 60 international awards, 13 Rally
titles and the coveted position of the
best selling car in the world.
